left

At Pikes Peak Security, we are redefining what it means to be a security officer. With excellence as our standard, we are raising the industry’s bar by equipping our security officers with top-of-the-line training. As one of Colorado’s best security service providers, we hold the responsibility of our community’s safety as our top priority. We do this by ensuring each of our officers are fully prepared to handle any threat to safety and respond accordingly. Each of our officers earned their position through experience, hard work, and diligence. We are proud to employ selfless individuals who go above and beyond.

Becoming a security officer means taking on a career that matters. From protecting others to upholding a safe environment, working in security is a highly rewarding career choice. Security officers fulfill an essential role at companies, storefronts, and events. Being a security officer requires a commitment to safety and bravery to back it up. If you are interested in becoming a security officer, it’s important to ensure you are ready to take on the job. Our knowledgeable team has created a guide to help you prepare for a rewarding career as a security officer.

1. Earn A High School Diploma

The first step to becoming a security officer is obtaining a high school diploma. At a minimum, most security companies require all security officers to have graduated high school. However, if you are serious about going into security, choosing to pursue a degree in criminal justice will give you a leg up on other applicants. Not only that, you will also be better equipped to handle your job responsibilities. Education is an essential part of being a security officer, and you must be knowledgeable in order to uphold a safe environment at all times. So, even if you are not currently enrolled in school, dedicate time to expanding your knowledge of security.

2. Gain Experience

Many employers look for experience when hiring security officers. While this may be discouraging for those new to the industry without any past security experience, there are other ways to gain security skills. From improving your firearm skills by practicing at a gun range to joining a volunteer security team, there are many opportunities to invest in growing your experience and skills. Additionally, if your past career field was military or law enforcement, you will hold a stronger chance of being hired due to your previous experience that is similar to security.

3. Apply For A Security Job

The next step to becoming a security officer is to apply. Fortunately, a lot of the training needed to be a security officer will be given to you by your employer. This means that once you have fulfilled the prerequisite requirements listed above, you can begin applying for open security positions. Make sure your resume represents the skills and experience you have attained that will make you a good hire, and that you have the needed documentation to prove it.

4. Pass A Background Check

All reputable security companies require a thorough background check to be completed before they hire a new security officer. This means that if you desire to have a career in security, it is essential to keep a clean record. Additionally, they will most likely require you to pass a drug test. Keeping a clean record and upholding an ethical lifestyle are important steps to take when pursuing a career as a security officer.

5. Complete Security Training

Once you are hired at your new job as a security officer, it is important to continue to set yourself up for success. This includes the required training to earn a security officer license. Most security companies will have all new employees complete training before they officially take on their role as a security officer. The security training received will vary from company to company, but it will most likely include firearm training, first aid, and emergency response which will all contribute to earning a security officer license. Completing all of these trainings will be essential to you keeping your job as a security officer and advancing in your career.
